This may be the age of digital photography, but there are some age-old marketing tricks that might make a difference in the camera you choose. It's all about the competition for the buyer of five Megapixel cameras, today's most popular choice. But tech industry insider Marty Winston raises a yellow flag.

One of the ways that camera makers compete over five Megapixel models is by cutting corners on their features. While most of us never need the higher resolution, six Megapixel cameras can get you back those missing features and make it easier to take better pictures.

One reason higher resolution tends to be wasted is that most of us only make five by seven inch prints, if we print our pictures at all.
