Your iPod or other portable music player may be capable of delivering better sound than you're hearing. There's a way to get lossless audio, as tech industry insider Marty Winston explains.

    Human senses are analog, and digital devices really just approximate analog signals; the more detail, the better the approximation. Most music players offer modes that allow for lossless audio, where no ear can hear the difference. Look for that choice.

The trade-off for better audio quality is a bigger audio file for each song, meaning your player may not be able to fit quite so many of them.
